As you can tell, I chose the wonderful Nina Simone. I had never heard of her before the class but now I frequently listen to her music, it’s great the things you can be exposed to second hand like this in projects_Pookat.
3. Tech Def Cover
Digital composite using original photography and hand-drawn lettering (2002). Samples from an old Olympia typewriter appear backwards as well. The musician pictured is the alto saxophonist John Jenkins, who I photographed in the early 90′s. Here he’s meant to be iconic, a laid-back jazz reference amid a rough and disoriented background.

Glitschka Studios goes out of it’s way to help a good cause. We donated our services to design the cover of this music CD being sold as a fundraiser to benefit a local Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. All the music on the CD was provided by indie bands hence the name “Almost Famous Band” title. The music was a lot of fun so we wanted the artwork to be just as fun and lively. To keep consistent with the art styling we hand lettered the title as well.

16. A Ransom Note
We had to create a “traditional” ransom note. By traditional, I mean cutting and pasting different letters to form the words. And, in the words of the teacher, “Any drunk son of a bitch can make a ransom note, but at least try to makes yours look like a graphic designer made it.” Then we had to scan the note and do whatever we want with it. One guy is even making it look like an actual kidnapping…He’s staging one with a friend and everything_Chaos Emerald Hunter.
